Get to Know Dave Eggers.

I can't stop talking about this guy. His books have really entertained me and instructed about the worlds current issues. Dave Eggers is is an American writer, editor, and publisher. He is known for the best-selling novel, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (which is an awesome must read book), and his more recent work as a screenwriter for the Spike Jonze movie "Where the Wild Things Are" (which was absolutely amazing and fun to watch). I have recently read "You Shall Know our Velocity" which is a great book about two friends traveling the world. I have just finished "What is the What" which is a great autobiography about a lost boy from Sudan, and his hard and insane life traveling through the deserts of Africa.
I think everyone should at least read one of these books, since i have never read any book much like these ones. They really open your eyes in the case of what is the what to the problems of Africa.
If you are in the San Francisco area, you should check out 826 Valencia, a nonprofit writing and tutoring center for kids ages 6-18 which is half a pirate costume store, and a tutoring service (read up on it, you'll understand why).

from 5@10pm there will be free food and drinks to get you started to party for the rest of the night.
They say as of 5pm its VIP but nobody will checking...
Come by, say hi!

:: Hendricks Gin X Salon Officiel ::

To supplement my monthly wages I also happen to bartend at Salon Officiel in Montreal.
Last night I was called in last minute to help out at a special event organized by Hendricks Gin.
They are working on a new campaign and were doing a little event at Salon.
I am not a gin person but must admit that Hendricks is much better than most, with slight cucumber, and rose petal flavours, it has a sweeter taste without being overwhelming.
The Hendricks ambassadors were there preparing what they call Hot Gin Punch which is a recipe inspired from Charles Dicken's works.
I am sure you will be seeing posts about this in the next few weeks.
Sorry about the low rez photo but it was a quick snapshot from my phone while I was working....

:: Spike Jonze's I'm Here ::

For those of you who have been waiting for this, you can now watch the new Spike Jonze 31min short here.
I haven't watched it all yet but it is filled with all the magic we are used to seeing from Jonze. Funded by Absolute vodka, this movie is not a blaten add for the alcohol which is nice to see in a day where advertising can take pretty much any form we can imagine.
Be sure to check it out in the morning because only 5000 people can be granted access to the movie website every day.

:: Red Bull Surfing Inside Tahiti ::

I know this is the second surfing post in not long but the season is approaching....
Red Bull keeps on sharing their money to promote all the most intense and adrenaline rich sports out there.
Well this time they combined the massive waves of Teahupoo Tahiti with the best video technology to create an interactive barrel experience. Using Immersive Media's 360 degree camera strapped to world renowned surfers Jamie O'Brien, Raimana Van Bastolaer, and Ian Walsh Red Bull has created an interactive video where with the use of your mouse, you can move the view of the camera as they surf the massive waves. It is pretty awesome and gutsy to strap a 25 pound camera to your back when riding in such conditions.
Below is one of the interactive videos and you can go here to get more info.

:: Chatroulette Map::

For those of you not familiar with chatroulette, it is basically this website where your webcam gets turned on and you randomly get set up with other people connected to the site. IF you have tried it, you may (or most likely) came across some dude jerking it in front of his webcam.
Well now, there is a new website called chatroulettemap, that has appeared and allows you to locate the people chatting on chatroulette.
I'm not sure the website refreshes that often, or if it is just always the same people conncted in my area but its definitively worth a visit.
Also if you have never been on chatroulette, get with the times and go for a little visit, but beware of the penises(unless thats what you are into), and remember that your webcam is on as well!
The clip below is from the chatroulette piano dude...Check it out

:: IMAX 3D Ultimate Wave Tahiti - Kelly Slater ::

Last Sunday night, after watching Canada win its final Olympic hockey game, my buddy called me up telling me about a new Imax 3D movie premiering at the science center that very night to which he had tickets.
This movie was AMAZING...
Being a surfer and getting to watch a surfing movie on an Imax screen is already very Rad, but to have that movie be in 3D was the cherry on top!
Montreal based filmmaker Stephen Low, know for his large format Imax films, keeps to push the envelope with this latest 3D creation.
Shot in the French Polynesian Island of Tahiti, home of some of the most gnarly surfing waves on the earth, this movie follows Kelly Slater (9 time surfing world champ) accompanied by Tahitian Surfer Raimana Van Bastolae ripping it on massive waves the region of Teahupoo is known for.
The movie also encompasses some very well animated history of the Island, as well as some interesting facts about the science behind surfing which makes it great for those 20-something year old, young at heart parents who also want to bring their kids.
Definitely go check it out, it is totally worth it.
