WESC Store in Seoul South Korea

For Canadians, finding a Tim Horton's gives them a sense of being at home. For others, it's McDonald's, and that's just sad. With the lack of Tim Horton's in South Korea, I have to say, I felt right at home in the WESC store in Seoul. Located in Apgujeong-dong, near everything and nothing, is the WESC store. It maybe hard to find for tourists since the Apgujeong streets are what I consider a big mess. A great place for coffee and shopping, but also a great place to get lost. The Seoul WESC store has a great selection of the most popular cuts of WESC denim, clothing and great headphones. It's a small shop, but filled with relatively good priced merchandise. If you don't go there for the jeans, at least go there for the girls that work there. You may not understand a word they say, but god they're hot. Just remember, i saw them first....

::MOMA Tim BURTON::

Tim Burton is probably one of the coolest film makers of our times. Responsible for movies such as Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and the best of the Batmans, to name a few, he has had and still has a busy career creating some of the best animated, dark, and visually impressive movies. As of tomorrow (November 22nd 09) there will be an exhibition on display at the MOMA in NYC of his work.
His work, from when he was a child, to his latter stuff as a director, producer, writer, and concept artist for live-action and animated films, will be on display as gallery exhibition and a film series.
If you are in the NYC area from Nov 22nd to April 10th 2010, make the point of going to see this, it should be rather interesting.

::South Korea's Answer to Fixed Gear Bikes::

Located in Apgujeong, Seoul near Rodeo Street (taken from the famous Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills), is a small shop named Skid Bikes. Skid Bikes is the only, from my knowledge, fixed gear bike shop in Seoul. It's a small shop like every other shop in Seoul, but has amazing goodies for Fixed Gear enthusiasts. As frames hang from the ceiling and parts from the wall, you are surrounded by Japanese, Chinese and America bike parts. With a large collection of Blueprint frames and amazing Japanese trick fixed gear bikes, you feel right at home spending one million won for a bike. It's worth the trip to check this shop, considering that its in the young fashion trendy area of Apujeong. From the other side of the globe...

::Furni Intern::

Furni is a cool little design company situated here in Montreal.  They specialize in wooden design pieces, notably digital clocks.  The latest addition to their collection is the Knox IE (intern edition). This product was re-imagined by the 3 interns working at Furni this summer, Jonathan Pitoscia, Mark Fromow, and myself Daniel Finkelstein.  Made of chipboard with a clear varnish finish, this clock utilizes materials that are often conceived as junk or sacrificial when in real give the object a fresh original look.  There were only 25 produced and 13 remaining so you should hurry up to get your hands on them while you still can!!
Hows that for free publicity bitches...

The Berrics Unified

The Berrics is a private Skatepark created by Steve Berra and Eric Koston in a warehouse in Los Angelas. It is an initiative started by the two in order to help save the sport of skateboarding and the mass media that has been directing its future. With skateboarding appearing in random commercials from iced tea to deodorant, many marketing agencies and large companies have seen the sport as a lucrative opportunity to further their already existing wealth. Call it a sanctuary from the hectic world, and a place to just skate... No pressure or controversies, skaters can practice, film tricks, and just mess around with each other without dealing with those preconceived notions that they should be competitors.  The website regularly hosts new videos and competitions between the various skaters which are definitely worth checking out.
The latest initiative launched by The Berrics, is "The Berrics Unified" project.  This is to help promote your local skateshops and skateparks; so that you can know who and where the important skateshops are, who owns and runs them, and what they look like. Basically its an initiative to help support your local economy and the dying sport of skateboarding that will be tossed out the window when the large corporations will have decided they have gotten all they could out of the sport and that people have moved on to the next big thing.

You can check out the video below, I snagged it from the creativity-online.com website.

RIP DJ AM

As you must know by now, DJ AM passed away on Aug 28th of this year...He spent the last part of his life trying to help people dealing with addiction as he had to do throughout his life. What you may or may not be aware of is that he was also a shoe freak. He had over 600 pairs of shoes to his collection that took over his whole house.
Undefeated and the Creative vision foundation have joined forces with the DJ AM Memorial Fund to create an online auction to raise money to help people dealing with addiction. The shoes on auction can be found on the Undefeated website under the tab DJ AM. Every shoe links you to the ebay page where you can bid on the shoes.
 This is a Rad initiative by the 3 groups to help people dealing with the disease that took the DJ's a few months ago.

Wilensky's Deli

Good ol' Wilensky's is always there to remind you of how montreal is the shit.
It's maybe not the best value for your money, or the most elaborate type of cuisine, but its always there, always been there and will always remain there for years to come. Another one of the awesome montreal landmark places to go. When you go, you gotta get the Wilensky special with a cherry coke (that they do the old fashion way..that is to mix the fizzy water and syrup by hand).
A place to try if you live in montreal and have never been...(34 rue Fairmount ouest, Mon-Fri 9am-4pm)

Obey Uganda Auction

Renown for his posters of Obama during the last U.S. presidential election and for his lifestyle brand Obey, Shepard Fairey is still as busy as ever. He created and donated two mixed media collages and two editions of 450 prints to L.E.A.D. Uganda, an organization "that locates vulnerable children with innate talents and molds them into leaders". The collages and the prints, valued at 12 000$ and 75$ each respectively, will go on auction on November 12th at the Steven Kasher Gallery, 521 West 23rd Street, New York, along with works by other noted photographers, among them Joyce Tenneson, Dan Winters, Michal Chelbin, and Lynn Bianchi.
You can check out Shepard's prints on the Obey website, where, every few weeks, new rad prints are displayed and sold.
